What’s Your Emergency Remembers Lost Friends

2018 was a rough year for your hosts and those around them.

Closest to home was the passing of San Francisco Rescue Captain Mike Kirk. A friend and co-worker of WYE co-host Justin, Mike was a supporter of KTKC and had been spotted more than once with Jason and Justin cooking up a batch of home brew. He was a huge SF Giants fan, opinionated and the guy you hoped was assigned to the Medic unit with you or had your layout at a fire.

Mike fell to an extremely rare form of cancer, something that seems to be happening far to often in our ranks. He was one of the first Firefighters to climb the exit slides of Asiana flight 214 after it crashed back in 2013, making dozens of rescues, earning him a Unit Citation and the Scannell Medal.

Mike was taken from the fire service far, far too soon.

In honor of Mike and the other Brothers and Sisters we have lost in 2018, WYE will go dark until 2019.
